Position Summary
AVA’s first Sales Engineer will help pro AV installers succeed at adopting, selling, and installing AVA control systems, including the groundbreaking AVA Cinema Remote. This role has potential for lots of self-management as you define a new function within an innovative startup.
You must have exceptional technical skills with smart home technology, especially home theaters and AV systems. You must also have intense social drive for connecting with people and sharing the technology that you are passionate about. You are a natural teacher, and also a native to the AV install industry.
This role bridges the gap between customer requirements, system design, field deployment, and post-installation support, ensuring reliable, intuitive, and well-integrated AV systems. The role requires regular travel within your territory.
Key Responsibilities
Design, configure, commission, and validate AV and control systems.
Develop system architecture and ensure proper functionality across audio, video, control, and networking components.
Troubleshoot complex system-level issues, perform root-cause analysis, and provide technical guidance during deployment and post-installation.
Assist in developing intuitive user interfaces that deliver clean, user-friendly control experiences.
K Report back on feedback from dealers, owners, and partners on how to improve current products and opportunities for AVA to deliver on new products and features.
Work closely with Sales on customer opportunities, solution design, competitive positioning, and market development.
Partner with Technical Support to resolve complex hardware and software issues.
Support regional and national trade shows, customer training events, and technical demonstrations.
Travel regularly throughout the assigned region.
Qualifications
3–5+ years of professional experience in AV systems engineering, commissioning, or integration.
Solid familiarity with the CI and/or Pro AV channel, both the business and the technical.
Strong knowledge of residential automation and control platforms.
Experience with automation configuration, logic, and user interfaces.
Strong understanding of IP networking, structured cabling, and network troubleshooting.
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with both customers and internal teams.
Travel ~75%, mainly using personal vehicle (re-imbursed per) within territory; occasionally by air. This job is about spending time with AVA dealers to make them succeed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with modern control platforms (Control4, RTI, Josh AI, Crestron Home, Savant, etc.).
Familiarity with AV-over-IP technologies.
Experience with API integrations, REST APIs, or scripting.
Understanding of Wi-Fi design and network best practices.
Experience delivering customer training or technical presentations.
